Lorain (Main) Campus Ethel Pastron, AdministratorMs. Ethel has worked in the early childhood field over 15 years. She is a graduate of Lorain County Community College’s Early Childhood Program and runs day to day operations at the Main campus as well as providing assistance to the Firelands Campus. Ethel has been with SSU Inc. since it’s opening in January 2001. She holds a current administrators license in Ohio, as well as continuing education for E.L.I. and other programs offered here at SSU. Holly Gendics, Pre-KindergartenMs. Holly is our lead E.L.I. preschool teacher at SSU. Main Campus. She holds a degree in religious education and is currently working on her double masters in Early Childhood Education and Literacy through Ashland University. She started her career as a high school religion teacher in Elyria and Euclid. She came to our program in 2005 and fell in love with the preschoolers. She eagerly attends continuing education for E.L.I. and offers a very diverse preschool learning experience for her students. Allyson Turner, Lead Preschool Teacher
Ally is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and holds a current Pre-k to 3rd grade license in Ohio. Ally has previous experience working in a childcare setting and has been a wonderful addition to our lead teaching staff Marisa Arroyo, Assistant teacher/ floater
Ms. Marisa joined the staff at Small scholars in 2008 as a teacher’s assistant working with all ages of children as needed. She has attended several training sessions in education areas for toddlers and preschool children as well as general studies in health and safety Milagros Colon, Lead Toddler Teacher
Millie joined Small Scholars University in 2008. She currently works as a lead toddler teacher at the Main Campus. Ms. Millie comes to us with many years of experience and training in education from the Chicago school districts where she was employed as a Para-professional. David Contreras, Lead Summer Camp InstructorMr. C is a graduate of Cleveland State University where he earned his BA of Science in Middle Child Education. As our lead summer camp instructor he helped create and extend upon our Cinci Early learning Curriculum we used for our before and after school programming. Celia Hogan, Part Time Assistant Summer Camp InstructorMs. H is a graduate of Cleveland State University where she earned her BA of Science in Middle Child Education. Ms. H worked at our site to assist with summer camp and gain hands on experience in a classroom environment. She assisted in all aspects of the program including lesson plans, teaching, crafts, and tutoring.
Ginny Hughes, School Age Instructor/Summer Camp AdvisorMs. Ginny is currently an education student at Bowling Green. She recently joined our program in May 2008 as our summer camp instructor. She works with the children before and after school during the school year as well. Marilyn Caley – Lead Infant Room TeacherMs. Marilyn has been employed by Small Scholars since 2001. She is a certified ODJFS provider and has completed Step Up to Quality Infant and Toddler development requirements. She continues her course work to keep up to date on the ever changing needs of her students. Melanie Camera – Lead Infant Room TeacherMs. Melanie has been employed by Small Scholars University since 2002. Over the years Ms. Melanie has worked with Infants and Toddlers. She is currently working as a lead Infant teacher. Ms. Melanie is a certified ODJFS provider as well as having completed Infant and Toddler Step Up To Quality Series Modules. She is currently enrolled at LCCC to continue her education. Helen Pastron – Lead Infant Room Teacher/ Break StaffMs. Helen started working at Small Scholars University in 2003. She worked with the infant program and also as a break staff. She is a certified ODJFS provider and also has her Step Up To Qulaity Infant and Toddler trainings series completed. Ms. Helen continues to attend training in early childhood education.
Firelands Campus Susie Moore, AdministratorSusie graduated from Ashland University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She holds a current license pre-k to 3rd grade as well as a reading endorsement k-12. Susie started off at the main campus in Lorain as a student teacher in 2003 under the supervision of Ms. Ethel Pastron. After graduation she became the lead preschool teacher. In time she was then promoted to assistant director. In 2006 Susie was then reassigned as the Administrator of the new Firelands campus where she now mentors new staff as an experienced leader in the early childhood field. Malerie Dennis, Lead Teacher/Assistant DirectorMalerie is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She holds a current pre-k to 3rd grade license in the state of Ohio as well as a reading endorsement. Ms. Malerie started her career at the Main Campus in 2006 and transferred to the new Firelands Campus. She is currently working with the toddler age group and has experience in teaching all ages. Lindsay Horvath, Assistant TeacherLindsay is a LCCC graduate with an AA degree. She is currently enrolled at Cleveland State as a psychology student. Ms. Lindsay began her career with Small Scholars in 2005 at the Lorain campus then transferred to the new Firelands Campus in 2006. Ms. Lindsay is experienced working with all ages of students. Kaitlynne Leimbach, Lead Pre-Kindergarten/School Age TeacherKaitlynne is a graduate of Ashland University with a degree in Education and holds a current pre-k to 3rd grade license in Ohio. Ms. Kaitlynne began her career at the main campus in 2005 then transferred to the new Firelands Campus in 2006. Ms. Kaitylnne is experienced in working with all ages. Her preschool curriculum is one that reflects her creativeness and educational knowledge of the preschool child. Zobeyda Marrero, Assistant teacherZoe has been a staff member at Small Scholars since 2003. Over the years she has worked with all ages of students and currently works at the South Amherst location as an assistant teacher. Ms. Zoe has training in early childhood education as well as many years of experience working with young children.
