Importance of Early Learning for Families Research studies of children's early learning abilities have made evident that children have enormous learning potential. From the time they are born, they are learning about the people and things in their environment. The years from birth through preschool set the foundation for much of what children will learn in kindergarten, the first and second grade and beyond. During the first five years of life, the amount of information that can be learned and the potential for learning far exceeds any other time of a child's educational history. Children are not only learning how to walk, how to dress themselves, how to name people/places and ask for things they want... but they also are learning:
All of these skills are necessary for school, for work and for all that we will do in life. Children are learning from the moment they are born. Early education and care programs offer families the opportunity to capitalize on the skills and knowledge that children are already developing. Out of home education and care settings provide families who either need assistance or desire to have their child experience learning and play in a group setting can be assured that the Early Learning Initiative are meeting program standards that are the framework for quality education and care.
